Democracy Is suffering In Tower Hamlets as Police were called in with reinforcements at a polling station fracas

Election day for Boris produced a great win however in Tower Hamlets for my by-election things were not as positive for clean democracy.

Thugs in Tower Hamlets stood outside polling stations on the day of an election, harassing and intimidating both voters and candidates. Mass-fraud is already suspected. Voting on local issues has been replaced by a growing tendency to show affiliations.

It was reported on the day in the evening standard:
Green Party condidate Mr Smith said he was too frightened to stay at the polling station. “It’s not right that people are being harassed,” he added.

Caroline Kerswell, the Tory candidate in the Weaver ward’s by-election, witnessed the altercation. She said: “We were standing here discussing electoral rules with them, then one guy threatened to punch his lights out.

“They’ve been here since early in the morning and they’re very intimidating. People coming to vote are nervous. We want a clean election in Tower Hamlets because of the reports of corruption.”

When it's got to the point that police feel compelled to call in reinforcements, for an election you know it's already a crisis.

Action is needed.

More mess in Tower Hamlets as Mile End East councillor Kosru Uddin is currently in custody

Labour’s Mile End East councillor Kosru Uddin is currently in custody after allegedly making threats to kill after a full council meeting.

The police were called just after 11.30pm amid screams from the council chamber which had been cleared of the press and public to debate the appointment of a permanent new chief executive. Uddin was allegedly restrained during a row in Bengali with Rania Khan, an independent councillor who supports Mayor Lutfur Rahman.

Police have confirmed the arrest of a 45-year-old man for making “threats to kill”.  Both Rania Khan and Mayor Lutfur gave statements to the police.

Uddin was elected in 2010.

This is shocking.

Tower Hamlets is in total chaos.

Something must be done to clean up politics in Tower Hamlets.

Campaining trail shows promising signs

Local people are fed up with a redundant council in Weavers (Bethnal Green by-election area), there is a lack of consultation and concerns are not being addressed. As a conservative candidate I will be hands-on making residents my top priority, focusing on reducing crime, keeping the historical elements of the area preserved and making the quality of living better through prosperity. The Tower Hamlets Council need to account for their action and stop wasting tax payers money without consulting them. A recent occurance is the resurfacing work removing the bricks to cover Brick Lane’s iconic cobblestones with tarmac, Tower Hamlets Council is spending £300,000 to resurface the street and residents were only given 3 days notice. What else will they do if they are not stopped!
